Jordan received his Bachelor of Science in Theater with a minor in Computer Science from Northwestern University. Since graduating, he has taught math in high school classrooms and has worked for several tutoring companies. As a tutor, Jordan specializes in supporting students with math through the AB/BC Calculus level, AP Statistics, biology, chemistry, and physics. He also supports students with coursework in English through the AP level, AP Government, history, human geography, psychology and college essay support. In addition, he tutors students in computer science through the college level and coding in several languages including Java, C, C++, and C#. Jordan is trained to support students as they prepare for the ISEE, other testing requirements, and timed writing for private school admissions. Jordan is an experienced Executive Functioning coach who helps students improve study skills, time management, organization, and planning. Jordan also has expertise in preparing students to take the ISEE, AP exams, SAT, and ACT. In his free time, he enjoys manga and anime, acting and theater, video games, and pickleball.

 

We Asked, Jordan Answered 

  • What is one of your fundamental beliefs about education?

    Everyone is capable of achieving their goals. Regardless of a baseline or a goal, I encourage the students that what they aim for is possible, however I meet this with realistic expectation setting. Say a student started with a 900 PSAT and they want a 1500 on their SAT. I encourage them to go for it, as I've seen it happen with a few students. I also temper that with how much time will need to be spent, the level of intention needed, and the mindset to go through a potential roller coaster of tests before that 1500 materializes. I also mention that our north star goal may not happen, but the quest was worthwhile and we learn something about ourselves on that path.

  • What is your favorite subject to teach and why?

    Math. I like watching students solve complex puzzles and guiding them in their process.

  • Share an anecdote about a time your student hit a wall and how the student overcame it.

    I had an SAT student who struggled with systems of equations. They were time consuming and complex. We explored different facets of desmos until it clicked and she suddenly got that entire category right 100% of the time with ease and quickly. She also didn't realize the power of desmos until this exploration was necessary.

  • What makes Hayutin different?

    The level of detail from the directors. I feel incredibly supported by the team and it shows much care is put into every student that chooses Hayutin.

  • What is the favorite thing you've learned from a student?

    That accommodating learning differences can be applied to our own lives across all disciplines. Meet yourself where you're at and be patient. 

  • Other than education, what is something you are passionate about?

    Manga and Anime. I could talk about 20+ series on the spot!

  • What’s something you learned about yourself after high school that you wish you knew back then?

    To be more proactive and nurturing with individual friendships and groups. 

  • What is a stretch you experienced growing up?

    Time management in an overloaded schedule. Somewhat yes, I manage the responsibilities quite well, but my adult struggle is managing self-care sustainably within an overloaded schedule. 

  • If you could tutor any historical figure, who would it be and what would your focus be?

    Shakespeare in Executive Functioning so we could've gotten more plays and clarity on which ones he fully wrote.

    Mistborn
